The holidays kicked off with a yearly Thanksgiving tradition in L.A. where the masses join forces with the Los Angeles Mission to hand out meals to those in need.

The stars also join in each year and this year Garcelle Beauvais and her sons, former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, NBA star Derek Fisher, actress Emmy Rossum, “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills” reality star Dorothy Wang, Ali Landry and many others pitched in to help.

It’s popular knowledge that the volunteers hand out turkey dinners, which include mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, pie and drinks. According to the L. A. Mission’s website, once the meals are handed out, they also distribute “about 4,000 meals, we were able to give out about 650 bibles, over 1,400 beautiful blankets and over 1,200 tarps in preparation for the colder winter months.”

But the giving back to the community doesn’t stop once the turkey leftovers are finished! The Los Angeles Mission continues to make their daily efforts strong and heard as they keep those in need as their top priority, now and beyond the holiday season.
